Suggest a book
The books we discuss at our monthly meetups are just the tip of the iceberg. If you are reading (or have read) a book that you simply can't put down, please let us know in the comments section below. Also, even if you have just heard of a book and would like it considered for a future meetup, let us know. For instance, there are some interesting suggestions in this interview with a book club member.
I've started reading "A Brief History of France: People, History and Culture" by Cecil Jenkins (2011, 330 pages with index). Hold on to your hats; it's definitely brief and whizzes through the years with the speed of a time machine. As an example, the Middle Ages are covered in 19 pages, and there's not much more than a paragraph for the Crusades. You might fail to notice that the Templars even existed. Of course, this book isn't going to teach me everything there is to learn about French history. It does fill in gaps in my knowledge, though, and is proving to be a good springboard to other English and French sources. -Lorna
